nants. The technologies evaluated as part of this ID are shown in Figure B, with more detailed summaries of their status appearing in the following pages.

Accomplishments

The VOCs in Non-Arid Soils ID served as the model for the ID approach to remedial technology
/system development. Major pro-
grammatic accomplishments for the ID are as follows:

  • established national criteria for implementation of the ID concept for development of innovative environmental remediation solutions
    (Photo B.1)
  • transferred numerous tech-
    nologies and systems to EM’s Office of Environ-
    mental Restoration (EM-40), other government agencies, and industry (Photo B.2). Outlined approach for ID
    closeout.

Some of the major technical accomplishments for the ID include the successful demon-
stration of the following:

  • in situ air stripping coupled with horizontal wells to re-
    mediate sites through air injection and vacuum extraction
